Karen Wiessen

After twenty years in public relations, I launched Autonomic Media to provide a more direct, fresh, and passionate approach to media and artist interactions. I do this by building on my rich experience, a laser-focused attention on what works and a drive to develop new outlets for promotion. I come up with out of the box concepts that make news, instead of standing by and waiting for news to happen.

I've collaborated with some of the most historic acts in rock, country and R&B, handling everything from launch campaigns and festivals to corporate communications. I’ve also catalyzed the careers of baby bands who have grown into international superstars.

I began my career at the boutique public relations firm Shore Fire Media. From there, I joined Island Records, where for nearly twelve years as Vice President of Media & Artist Relations at the Island Def Jam Music Group, I devised and implemented national campaigns for recording artists including Fall Out Boy, Lionel Richie, Willie Nelson, PJ Harvey and many more. Then, as a public relations consultant, I expanded my range of experience with companies and brands such as SONGS Music Publishing, Train's Save Me, San Francisco Wine Company and Lisa Loeb's Eyewear Line, growing their businesses and boosting their profiles.
